She is survived by her husband, Barry; daughter, Margaret Hassman and husband Jack of Dover; her son, Richard Gray and fiancé Vicki of Seaford; and her grandchildren, Brianne, Emily, Alex, Hunter and Jon.
A memorial service will be announced at a later date.
An MA degree from Appalachian State University in 1968 led to teacher, coach, dean of men and athletic director positions at Mount Olive Junior College.
Earning his Ph D from the University of Maryland in 1979 was one of his greatest personal accomplishments.
